Samunnati (registered as a Non Banking Financial Company) is a company focused on agri value chains, aims to enhance the value of all players across the value chain, by providing financial intermediation, market linkages and advisory services. Samunnati stands for Inclusive Growth and works with a belief that for a value chain to work well, all the chain actors need have access to formal financial instruments customized to suit the requirements of the Value Chain as well as the stakeholders operating within – thereby making the value chains operate at a higher equilibrium.

In doing this Samunnati

  • Works with farmers and farmer associations in securing adequate access to quality production inputs together with risk- coping mechanisms for natural disasters shocks;
  • Establishes strong market linkages and relationships among various chain actors (including commitments from these actors to cooperate on mutually beneficial actions/investments) and farmer community organizations.
  • Provides advisory on strategies to enhance the ability of smallholders and farmer community organisations to compete in agri product market by reducing cost of production, increasing yield and improving quality.

The key to the interventions of Samunnati is to understand the local value chains, to develop selective customised financial solutions across these value chains and thus create vibrant local economies that are efficiently connected to mainstream financial markets. Using the value chain finance model, Samunnati is providing quality, affordable financial services for small and marginal farmers* and other value chain actors. Samunnati commenced its operations in Tiruvannamalai district in November 2014 and has expanded its operations to various parts of the country.

The value chain finance model developed and implemented by Samunnati is adaptable to diverse contexts, products and environments. Samunnati is now expanding its footprint across other states and districts in various food and agri value chains by setting up new branches which are referred as Points of High Impacts and new Channels of High Impacts including working through community based organisations like Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs & Cooperatives).
